Up In The Air ****
Is it worth $10? Yes
Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) loves life on the road, and oddly enough enjoys his job as a "termination facilitator" (i.e. companies hire him to come in and fire their employees). His livelihood is challenged when a hotshot college grad named Natalie (Anna Kendrick) wants to change the way his company does business. To his credit, Ryan convinces his boss (Jason Bateman) to let him take one more trip on the road, only he has to show Natalie what it's really like to fire people. Another reason Ryan doesn't want to stay home is Alex (Vera Farmiga), a fellow road warrior who describes herself to Ryan as “like you, only female.” Great performances from Clooney and Farmiga make the acting top-notch, and a sharp script (co-written by Sheldon Turner and director Jason Reitman) make the story a timely and relevant portrait of our times. It's the best movie of 2009.

... I suppose that it's hard to classify this as an action flick, but it is one of the better movies that I've seen lately. I've never been a Clooney fan, but he was excellent as Ryan Bingham. If you did not catch it on the big screen, it's worth the time to rent. |
