Warm Bodies - Summit Entertainment
Is it worth $10? Yes
Zombies are limited in what they can do: They move slowly, groan, snarl, look pale and survive only on the instinct for flesh. “Warm Bodies” takes these characteristics and plays with them by putting them into a love story. Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?
And how can a zombie fall in love, you ask? Great question, and kudos to novelist Isaac Marion for coming up with the idea and writer/director Jonathan Levine (“50/50”) for making it work on screen. R (Nicholas Hoult), our narrator, is a zombie. But he’s also a deep thinker, wondering if something more will ever come of his dead existence. Julie (Teresa Palmer) is a post-apocalyptic resistance fighter whose best friend Nora (Analeigh Tipton), boyfriend Perry (Dave Franco, James’ brother) and father (John Malkovich) are all that’s left of her world.
That is, until R kills Perry and eats his brains (don’t worry, it’s rated PG-13 and never too graphic; we’ve definitely seen worse on “The Walking Dead”). The benefit of R eating brains is that he can see Perry’s memories, and in doing so R becomes smitten with Julie, so he kidnaps her. There’s nothing like getting to a girl’s heart by trapping her in an airplane and listening to classic rock together.

Julie naturally wants to escape, but can’t because the zombies, in addition to thinking, having a heart and slowly becoming human again, are also rather quick on their feet. Now, those of you who say zombies shouldn’t be thinking, nor should they be fast and athletic, shut up. If tween girls can watch sparkling vampires in a terrible billion-dollar franchise, the rest of us can enjoy an original story about zombies having a heart.
With the help of R’s friend M (Rob Corddry) the good guys fight off zombies and fall in love. It’s all very sweet, actually, and because we’ve never seen a zombie love story before, it’s original and humorous and well made at the same time.
“Warm Bodies” is the kind of movie that has such frank outside-of-the-box creativity it could become a cult favorite. It’s too early to tell, of course, and upon first impression it probably doesn’t have enough memorable lines or moments to achieve that status, but there’s no denying the freshness that makes this a success.
Did you know?
Per imdb: The story is based loosely on "Romeo and Juliet". "R" = "Romeo"; "Julie" = "Juliet; "Perry" = "Paris"; "M/Marcus" = "Mercutio"; "Nora" = Juliet's "Nurse" (the character of Nora is also a nurse).

... This was finally a zombie movie for both guys & girls. Yes it was a bit cheezy at times and meant for teens, but what love story do you know that includes zombies and action that would not be a bit cheezy at times? I liked it and would recommend it. |

... I liked it because it was original, and classic at the same time. It was funny, and heartfelt. It took the zombie epidemic and turned it into something human. Best movie of the year for me so far |

... I loved this movie because it was not your typical zombie movie. It was a wonderful combination of a love story, light comedy, and of course zombies. |
