“Haywire” hottie
and former MMA fighter Gina Carano is taking another shot at acting. After having an ensemble movie built around her physical prowess with Steven Soderbergh, THR has learned that she is now attached to John Stockwell’s “In the Blood.” In the film, which is being described in the vein of “Taken,” Carano will play a wife who hunts down the men who kidnapped and killed her husband. The stunt team from “Haywire,” 8711, is in talks to reteam with Carano for the project to bring more realistic and brutal fight scenes. Hopefully she is getting some acting lessons right now, because her inability to carry the film was the worst part of her big screen debut. I enjoy watching her whoop ass, and she is certainly easy on the eyes, but when you deliver your lines worse than Channing Tatum you know you have a problem. The movie is set to begin filming early summer in Puerto Rico, and will hit screens as a summer action flick in 2013.
The crazy bastards behind “Crank” and the upcoming “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, are already eyeing their future projects. IndieWire has reported that they have said they intend to make a third “Ghost Rider” movie, depending on the box office results of this one, and that Nicholas Cage (“8mm”) wants to join them again. I guess their twisted, bizarre, and crazy personalities sync up really well. On top of that they will be making a “Crank 3D.” They mentioned that their creative process has been, "Beer, tequila, talking about ideas, doing whatever the fuck we want to do, and trying to push it through the system." This sounds like a recipe for another crazy and kick-ass adventure with Jason Statham. They always intended to do “Crank” as a trilogy, and they are already thinking about doing prequel movies. I love these guys for the same reason I love Samuel L. Jackson: they love to make movies. You can tell they are having a great time behind the camera, because everyone in front of it is having a great time, and that rubs off on the viewer. I can’t wait to see what these maniacs have in store for us.
Billy Bob Thornton (“Faster”) has a couple new projects coming up. According to Variety, Thornton will co-write and direct “And Then We Drove.” The movie is about a guy who’s on a road trip and picks up this girl along the way, and what happens to them. The road trip will take the couple across the U.S. with stops in Los Angeles, New Mexico, and Arizona. Producer Alexander Rodnyansky confirmed that the movie is partly inspired by Thornton’s relationship with Angelina Jolie. On top of this comes the exciting news that “Bad Santa 2” is finally going to happen. The script is going through a rewrite now, and production is said to begin this fall for a release on Christmas of 2013. No plot details have been released as of yet, but the film is sure to be raunchy, hilarious, and unforgiving like the first. “Bad Santa” is in my top 5 favorite holiday movies along with “Jingle all the Way” and “Die Hard.”Dan Aykroyd (“Evolution”) told Empire that “Ghostbusters 3” is still on the horizon, but he also created a bit of online turmoil. In the interview he suggested that Bill Murray’s character Peter Venkman would be recast if Murray refused to return to the movie. As many know, Murray is part of the reason why there hasn’t been another movie yet as he has bashed every script put in front of him. Aykroyd said that he is currently rewriting the script in hopes of making it perfect, but he is still a long way from being finished. He mentioned the current version focuses a lot on Rick Moranis’ character, and he hopes to lure him out of retirement to reunite with his friends and co-stars. This seems unlikely to happen considering Moranis wouldn’t even reprise his role for the “Ghostbusters” video game where all he would have had to do was lend his voice. Trying to get him to do the whole nine yards involved with acting seems like a fool’s dream. All I can say is if the project does finally get made, but they replace Murray instead of just adding a new character, I will boycott this film.

... Damn, all of those movies sound exciting. I agree that that they either need Bill Murray or add a new character for Ghostbusters 3. Hopefully they don't replace Venkman. I absolutely love Bad Santa and would love to see a sequel. The Crank movies are guilty pleasures of mine and I hate to admit I would go see "Crank 3d" for sure. If any of these movies get made, I'll be happy. |
