As the film contributor to the NPR affiliate in Miami, I recently had the pleasure of hosting the first Florida Film Critics Circle Roundtable on the "South Florida Arts Beat" program. Over the course of three segments I spoke with FFCC members Hap Erstein and Jon Adams about the best art houses in South Florida, how to become a critic, advice to aspiring critics, the state of the profession today, how being a critic works in regard to getting invited to screenings, and more.
It was a fascinating conversation in which our differences were readily apparent, a fact that was also echoed this week by Hap's so-so review of "Seven Days in Utopia" and Jon's fondness for the film (I didn't see it, and nor do I plan to).
You can listen to the roundtable here, and for more you can read Hap online at the Palm Beach Arts Paper and check out Jon's Web site, Screenspotlight.com.
Enjoy!
