Law Abiding Citizen
Starring: Gerard Butler, Jamie Foxx, Colm Meaney. Rated R.
The movie: Ten years after his wife and daughter were murdered, a family man (Butler) seeks revenge on the justice system that allowed one of the murderers to go free. The film’s social commentary gets lost in the plot holes and gratuitous violence, but as a whole this is a fresh idea that’s always entertaining (as well as silly and forgettable). Rent It.

Coco Before Chanel
Starring: Audrey Tautou, Benoit Poelvoorde, Alessandro Nivola. Rated PG-13.
The movie: Director Anne Fontaine’s biopic follows fashion designer Coco Chanel in early (before she became famous) 20th century France as she lives with a wealthy aristocrat (Poelvoorde) and falls in love with one of his friends (Nivola). Tautou’s strong performance paints Chanel as a fighter and free-thinker, and it’s fun the see the seeds of what she would become manifest in logical and practical ways. Good as it is, it's hard to imagine someone who's not fashion-inclined coming back to this again and again, so Rent It.
