“Cop Out” challenges new depths of terrible and holds up pretty well amongst the worst, most gratingly awful movies you can remember. That includes you, “Love Guru.”

When Martin Scorsese is on, his movies are so awesome we can’t wait to see them again. “Shutter Island” leaves us wanting to see it again, but for different reasons.

With visual effects as advanced as they are today, making a cool werewolf movie is incredibly difficult. Simply put, we’ve seen all this before, and we’ve seen it with animals/monsters that are more badass and intimidating than a werewolf. And so the challenge is to bring originality and intrigue to the story, but there’s nothing interesting about “The Wolfman,” which is dark and gloomy and sad.

Huge cast. Huge expectations. Huge disappointment. “Valentine’s Day” is a Hallmark movie for a Hallmark holiday, made for the sole purpose of capitalizing on one weekend’s box office receipts. The star power is considerable, but this disappointing, sappy movie about a corporate-created holiday is as heartfelt as giving plastic flowers to a loved one.

Tom Craven no longer gives a damn. His daughter – his world – is gone, and as we’ve learned in “Death Wish” and “Taken,” vigilante heroes will break any law and bear any burden for the pleasure of revenge. That “Edge of Darkness” gets us to care about Tom, and root for him through decent action scenes and a suspenseful storyline, is our pleasure.

In the surprisingly effective “Extraordinary Measures,” two action movie stars face an insurmountable foe, and just about every step they take is met with resistance and difficulty. For Harrison Ford (“Indiana Jones”) and Brendan Fraser (“The Mummy”), this is nothing new. But what is new is the villain, which is more deadly and dangerous than any they’ve ever faced.
