Yet another "Resident Evil" movie opens this weekend (it's the fourth in the series), and this time "Afterlife" is in 3-D! Thankfully it was shot in 3-D, so it should look spectacular. New Trailer For Due Date

I still don't think "Due Date" looks very funny, but I'm remaining optimistic for the following reasons: 1) It was directed by Todd Philips, who made "The Hangover," 2) I'll watch Downey Jr. in anything, and 3) Rumor has it the best moments are yet to come, i.e. Warner Bros. hasn't ruined the movie by showing us all the funny parts already. "Due Date" is due in theaters Nov. 5, 2010.

George Clooney is back on the big screen this week with "The American," in which he plays an assassin fighting to survive while hiding in Italy. I always thought trailers were supposed to get people into movie theaters, not tell the entire story beforehand. Watch this trailer for "The Town." Or better yet, don't. It's going to be another slow weekend at the box office, as late August/early September is usually the proverbial dumping ground for movies the studios don't have much hope for. There may not be "quality" films opening this weekend, but that doesn't mean they won't be darn entertaining. True story: When the trailer for "Devil" (opens Sept. 17) played before a jam-packed "Scott Pilgrim" screening, the audience was rapt with attention for two solid minutes. It looked like a fun, engrossing thriller.

Those who enjoyed Chloe Moretz as Hit Girl in "Kick-Ass" will be interested to see her in "Let Me In," the American remake of the Swedish vampire film "Let The Right One In."

Opening This Week: The Other Guys, Step Up 3D

"The Other Guys" will likely unseat "Inception" as the top spot at the box office this weekend, and understandably so given the star power and humor of the trailer. "Step Up 3D," which was filmed entirely in 3-D in New York City, will likely land in the lower half of the top ten. If it's any higher, be shocked.

Wide variety of new releases this coming weekend, but the only one with a real chance to unseat "Inception" as the top spot at the box office is Steve Carell and Paul Rudd's "Dinner For Schmucks." "Charlie St. Cloud," starring Zac Efron, will be lucky to finish in the top ten. However, "Cats & Dogs" should play well with the family crowd.

"The Social Network" Trailer

"The Social Network," directed by David Fincher ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), is about the early days of Facebook. Observation: Why is the trailer so dark? Every scene appears dimly lit, suggesting an ominous, negative tone to the film. Given that the company is worth an estimated $11 billion, you'd think there'd be more to glow about.

"The Social Network" will be Shared, Commented upon and (hopefully) Liked October 1.
